Mortal Shell 2 Builds
Shell, weapon, Tarstone, Seal — the four dials of every Mortal Shell II build, and three loadouts that work right now.
How Builds Work in Mortal Shell II
A build in Mortal Shell II is assembled from four systems, all confirmed at launch:
- Shell — determines your health, stat spread, speed and unique active ability. Eight playable Shells, each playing differently.
- Weapon + Tarstone — eight melee weapons with distinct movesets; a levelled Tarstone infused into the weapon controls its scaling and properties.
- Sidearm — ranged backup that fits into combos.
- Seal — equip a Seal for special abilities tied to parry and utility; some Seals even change the difficulty (see the Slayer Seal below).
Because weapon-specific abilities unlock through Familiarity (using a weapon) and Tarstones are shared across weapons, the smart build path is: pick one weapon early, level one Tarstone, and branch into a second weapon only after your main is online.
Starter Build — "The Broodseeker" (Proxima)
Shell: Proxima · Melee: Veteran's Battle Axe · Sidearm: Triarch Repeater · Tarstone: one, levelled early · Seal: Slayer Seal for the first run.
The launch-day community consensus build. Proxima is among the first Shells you can find (see the Proxima guide), the Veteran's Battle Axe is rated the best early weapon, and the Slayer Seal smooths the difficulty curve while you learn. This loadout costs almost nothing to assemble and carries comfortably through the opening regions — and its only real investment, the single levelled Tarstone, stays useful forever.

Speed Build — "The Acolyte" (Tiel)
Shell: Tiel · Melee: Axe & Dagger (or Black Needle late) · Sidearm: Crossbow · Tarstone: crit/agility-focused infusion · Seal: any parry-focused Seal.
Tiel is the fastest Shell in the game — the open beta's official notes called her out as the speed option, found in the Mushroom Village area. She shines with fast weapons that multiply her mobility: the Axe & Dagger pair for aggressive pressure, and the Black Needle once you reach it. Where Proxima pursues, Tiel dances — sidearm shots, quick parries and rapid stance breaks are the loop. Playstyle notes are based on beta-era reports of her kit; her full stat spread is pending verification.
Power Build — "The Venerable" (Eredrim)
Shell: Eredrim · Melee: Great Martyr's Blade or Obsidian Hammer · Sidearm: Crossbow · Tarstone: heavy damage infusion · Seal: survivability or challenge Seal.
Eredrim the Venerable returns from the first game as the tank-and-trade option. Pair him with the slow, devastating weapons — the Great Martyr's Blade for reach, the Obsidian Hammer for pure posture damage. You win fights by out-poising the enemy: absorb their pressure, answer with heavy hits, and let the boss break before you do. The trade-off is speed; bring the Crossbow so ranged threats can't kite you.

Levelling, Tarstones & Respecs
Three rules verified across every early guide:
- One Tarstone. Level one stone and move it between weapons. Spreading Tarstone XP is the most common mid-game softlock.
- Glimpses are precious. Skill points come from Glimpses, which are limited. Spend toward your build's key nodes, not every tempting option.
- Respecs exist. Skill-point respecs and weapon respecs are both in the game — but they're not free, so a plan beats a fix.
Builds will be expanded with exact stat tables, Seals and Tarstone types as they're confirmed post-launch. Check the changelog for updates.
